Happy new year and welcome to my first newsletter of 2025.
While I haven't written many newsletters over the last year, a lot has happened! One evening, over sushi and wine at Covent Garden, my friend and collector Natalia Giacomino, an award winning architect, and I put our heads together and created the concept for a new networking organisation for artists and businesses - Creations Atelier. A few months on, and I'm thrilled it is a reality, we have a number of devoted members and we even made it on MSN news! So that was nice to wake up to :)
We are holding our first exhibition, Metamorphosis, at Art Space Marylebone Parish Church, 28 March - 22 April.
The Private View will take place on 4 April, 6-8pm
In my acrylic painting "The Protector" I explore the intricate dynamics of the traditional male role within the family structure, focusing on the delicate balance of being a lover, provider and a protector. This painting is a visual exploration of these age-old expectations, that have defined men since the time of the cavemen.
The concept of protection often extends beyond the physical realm, encompassing emotional and psychological support, which can be likened to the sanctuary that a shelter provides. In creating this piece, I wanted to reflect on the evolving nature of these roles in contemporary society, where partnerships are increasingly defined by mutual support and shared responsibilities.
Hand gilded prints are available, bridging the gap between original painting and giclee prints. Let me know if interested.
Holiday Painting
For years now, every year I have created a piece of art to suite the holidays, and my mood. This year, my little boy joined me in creating this abstract Christmas wreath.
He learnt about abstraction and geometry, practiced painting straight lines and holding the brush like a true artist, using his little finger for support, and did some gilding for the fun of it.
I discovered podcasts...
To be honest, I didn't know podcasts were this popular. So last year, when was a bit of a revelation in this respect. I got the chance to go on a few podcasts, and it was thrilling!
If you know me well, you probably know that motherhood, from experiencing recurrent miscarriages and becoming a SEN mum, was a challenge for me. Last year, there was finally light at the end of the tunnel. And so, I felt it was time to tell my story on the Human Experience Podcast by Jennifer Peterkin, a lover and collector of stories. You can listen to the episode here:
Sue Davies from the Inspiring Salon Professionals Podcast invited me for a chat as well.
One of the key themes of the episode is how art can create a welcoming and calming environment for clients in salons, offering them a moment of respite from their hectic lives.
Money is a difficult subject for a lot of people, myself included. We have so many 'money blocks'. So when Lisa Drennon invited me to speak to her on the 'I date money podcast', I was like 'Yes, of course!'.
Because if we don't talk about the money blocks, we don't get to unblock them...
